Trading, Bartering, Sharing, Providing and Connecting Resources to the Hunts Point South Bronx Communities through providing Art-making, Healthy Living, Storytelling, Environmental, Social Activism, Community Cultural Awareness, Youth and Elder engagement workshops, activities and events throughout the community. These workshops and events took place in locations around the South Bronx that many of the Bronx residents may not have been aware of,The goal was to connect Art, families and Communities too places like Community Gardens, Historic Landmarks, the Bronx Waterfronts, Libraries, Laundromats, Parks to learn something new and be engaged in Art. Along with the fellowship and Project Dennis received a 2 year Artist studio in the Bronx where Dennis would create Art and hold workshops, Studio visits and classes. Outside of the studio space was the Kelly Street Garden a place where Kelly Street community members would grow fruits, vegetables and herbs.
The staff at that time was excited about the presence of a Artist working in the garden and asked if He had any ideas on how to engage more youth from the community to take part in gardening.
As a child Dennis grew up in a home where his mother created her own natural juices, shampoos, toothpaste and Other Self Care products. He has Incorporated much of her teachings from when he was young into his everyday life practice as a way of staying health-conscious and healthy.
He begin to think and came up with the RedMoon Bronx Soaps and Teas which started as free workshops for Youth and Elders to learn how to use natural herbs from the garden to create self care products like soaps, teas, toothpaste, cough medicine, deodorant, foot fungus cream, body moisturizers and other amazing products where the community learned the benefits of each Herb, Root and the Benefits it does to the body.
Along with how to Cure, Dry, Treat, Cut,and Pickle what was grown, picked and planted in the garden.
Many of the products made were used by the Community members. During events and holidays Soaps, Teas and Candles were donated to volunteers and Visitor's to the garden.
After Dennis completed the LP's Residency he continued to give free Soap and Tea makingworkshops around the Bronx. He has Incorporated some of his workshops within his teaching classroom, He has been invited to conduct and organize curriculums, workshops and Festivals with Arts & Health Institutions around the Bronx and NYC Tri-state area.
Many people really enjoy the teas and the Soaps. Dennis begin to get many orders for his products along with presentations and workshops request. This allow him to invest more time and money into RedMoon Bronx Soaps and Teas.
